(Benin City, Nigeria)
On June 3, 2026, Shanghai Jianhang organized a special delegation at the invitation of the host to conduct an on-site survey at a freshwater fish farm in Benin. The purpose of this visit was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project’s current status and conditions, thereby providing a basis for the company’s future investment decisions.
The delegation visited the incubation area, the fry area, the outdoor aquaculture area, the freezing area, the slaughtering area, the office area, and the employee dormitories, conducting a systematic inspection and evaluation of the facilities, equipment, and infrastructure in each functional area.
Nigeria is Africa’s largest aquaculture nation, and the freshwater fish market holds great promise. Data shows that Nigeria’s annual demand for fish products is approximately 3.6 million metric tons, while domestic production is only about 1.4 million metric tons, resulting in an annual supply gap of over 2 million metric tons and annual fish import expenditures exceeding $1.2 billion. In 2026, the Nigerian federal government allocated over 122 billion naira to the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, focusing on boosting domestic production capacity and promoting import substitution, thereby creating a robust policy environment for the freshwater fish farming industry.
This field survey has provided Jianhang with critical information for evaluating investment opportunities in the freshwater fish farming sector. Moving forward, the company will further assess the feasibility of these investments by evaluating market prospects and project conditions.
