(Edo State, Nigeria) – September 15, 2026 — The rehabilitation and restart project of the freshwater fish farm invested by Shanghai Jianhang Investment Co., Ltd. in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria has marked the one‑month milestone since the on‑site team arrived. Over the past month, the project team has completed site surveys, finalized the rehabilitation plan and commenced repair works. The first batch of fry has been released for pilot breeding, and the project is advancing steadily under the work philosophy of “rehabilitation alongside production”.
Previously idle for years, the fish farm suffered from long‑term shutdown and dilapidated infrastructure, featuring cluttered premises, ageing installations and idle equipment. Upon arrival, the project team immediately carried out thorough site surveys and environmental clearance. Based on on‑ground conditions of premises and machinery, a targeted rehabilitation scheme was adopted. Repair work on core facilities and equipment covering breeding, hatching, oxygenation, feeding, water supply and power supply is now underway, laying groundwork for full production resumption.
While carrying out renovation works, the team sticks to the “rehabilitation alongside production” approach to boost construction through real‑world operation. The first batch of fish fry has been stocked for pilot aquaculture, and partial zones and operational links have gone into trial operation. Under strict safety and quality control, remaining renovation, equipment commissioning and production‑process optimization move forward in parallel, in a bid to realize full production restart at an early date.
Upon full completion and operational launch, the project is projected to produce 5 million fish fry and 150 000 kg of market‑ready fish annually. Its feed‑manufacturing segment will first satisfy internal farming consumption, with an annual external sales capacity of 1 000 tons. A complete industrial chain integrating fry breeding, table‑fish farming as well as feed production and sales will take shape, lifting local aquatic product supply and industrial added value.
This initiative represents a key move for Shanghai Jianhang to revitalize overseas existing assets and expand its agricultural footprint. It will inject fresh momentum into local fishery development in Benin City. Once fully operational, the project is expected to create local jobs, facilitate aquaculture‑technology exchanges, and drive coordinated growth of feed, aquaculture and related sectors, adding new impetus to the high‑quality development of the company’s overseas businesses.
Going forward, the project team will prioritize renovation, integrated equipment commissioning, production organization and operation management. All tasks will be advanced in a well‑planned manner to secure early full‑scale commissioning and tangible outcomes, striving to build the project into a new showcase for the company’s overseas agricultural cooperation.
